Apex, NC

The town of Apex was incorporated in 1873, named for its location as the highest point on the Chatham Railroad between Richmond, Virginia and Jacksonville, Florida. Apex grew slowly through the succeeding decades, despite several devastating fires, including a 1912 conflagration which destroyed most of the downtown business district.

Cary, NC

Today’s Cary began in 1750 as a settlement called Bradford’s Ordinary. About 100 years later, the construction of the North Carolina Railroad between New Bern and Hillsborough placed Bradford’s Ordinary on a major transportation route. Allison Francis “Frank” Page is credited with founding the town.

Clayton, NC

Clayton is a town in Johnston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 6,973 at the 2000 census. However, the town’s population has grown tremendously since then, with an unofficial population of about 16,943 residents as of 2007, double the year 2000 tally.

Fuquay-Varina, NC

The population was 7,898 at the 2000 census. The town is a 30 minute drive south of Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina. Economically, the town initially grew due to tobacco trade and agriculture, but has seen recent population growth and real estate development due to its proximity to the Research Triangle Park.

Holly Springs, NC

It was not until the town built its first sewer plant in 1987 that any real growth occurred. Development began tentatively. It was 1992 before Holly Springs, in line for the spillover from burgeoning populations in Cary and Apex, suddenly boomed. Population increased from 900 in 1992 to an estimated 6000 in 1998.

Knightdale is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 5,958 at the 2000 census. Founded in 1927, Knightdale was an agricultural town on the railroad. With the population boom experienced in the North Carolina Research Triangle area in the 1990s.

Morrisville is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, USA. The population was 5,208 at the 2000 census. A Special Census was conducted by the United States Census Bureau in March 2004, when the population was enumerated at 11,915. The 2005 estimate has the population standing at 12,192.

Research Triangle Park (RTP) is the largest research park in the world. It is located near Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill, in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina. A small part of the Park stretches into Wake County, but the majority of the land is in Durham County.

Wake Forest is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, a suburb of Raleigh. The population was 12,588 at the 2000 census. The town was the original home of Wake Forest University. The former Wake Forest campus is the current home to the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
